A late goal by Fernando Forestieri won the game for Sheffield Wednesday against Cardiff.

Sheffield Wednesday came closest in a goalless first half, with Allan McGregor pushing Ross Wallace’s shot onto the post. Cardiff did come close though, with Joe Ralls having a shot from distance spilt by Keiren Westwood, but Kenneth Zohore failed to capitalise. Ralls had another shot which Westwood again fumbled, but Cardiff failed to capitalise again.

In the second half, from an Aron Gunnarsson long throw, Ralls headed it on and Greg Halford just failed to get on the end of it. Wednesday came close to opening the scoring, with a Jack Hunt cross hitting Bruno Manga, but hitting the post.

City were frustrating their opponents, with Wednesday looking the team most likely to score. The pressure finally told, when two substitutes combined with Forestieri heading in after Jordan Rhodes’ shot was saved by McGregor. It kept them in the play-offs ahead of Fulham.

Cardiff remain in 14th, with nothing to fight for now, and the rest of the games this season are preparation for next season. Wednesday held on to sixth spot in the league.

Next up for the Bluebirds they are at home to Nottingham Forest next Monday, the 17 April. Hopefully they can get back to winning ways.
