A 90th minute Joe Ralls penalty gave Cardiff a stunning win after they had fought back from 2-0 down.

Derby started the game in total control and they were 2-0 up after 17 minutes. Julien de Sart scored the first, when he put it in from a rebound. Darren Bent scored the second from Darren Bent’s pass. But, in the 41st minute,  Cardiff got a goal back when Kadeem Harris’ long-range effort deflected over Scott Carson’s head.

And two minutes after half time, Harris scored another to level the game. The ball went into the box, before a scramble in the box. Harris pounced on the loose ball to put it in the net. Then, in the 57th minute, Craig Noone got the ball on the right, cut inside onto his left foot, before curling beautifully into the top left corner to put the Bluebirds ahead. It was a wonderful goal.

But, in the 74th minute, Bent scored again to equalise for Derby. He rose higher than Sean Morrison to head in. It looked as though he had salvaged a point. However, there was another twist in the tale. Substitute Rhys Healey was tripped in the box and Cardiff had a penalty. Joe Ralls calmly stroke it into the bottom corner to give Cardiff the win.

The loss for Derby is damaging for their play-off hopes. The Bluebirds are now in 12th place, five points behind Derby in 12th, who are now eight points off the top six. Cardiff are now 13 points above the relegation zone and the same amount of points off the play-offs.

Next up for the Bluebirds are Rotherham at home on Saturday, the 18 February.
