Man United eased to a win away at Premier League Champions Leicester.
It was a poor first half until just before the break. United didn’t threaten at all and Leicester were probably playing a bit better. It came to life as United scored twice in two minutes. The first goal came when Chris Smalling flicked on to Henrick Mkhitaryan, who raced through on goal before putting it in with a clinical finish.
The second came when United took advantage of some shocking Leicester marking. Antonio Valencia crossed in for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who side-footed home for his 15th Premier League goal of the season. He is the oldest person to reach 15 Premier Goals in a season. United have been too reliant on Ibrahimovic as he had scored 10 more league goals than anyone else.
In the second half, in the 49th minute, United scored another. Juan Mata played a one-two with Mkhitaryan, before finishing past Kasper Schmeichel. Wes Morgan had played him onside with some more poor defending from the hosts. Goal scoring and defending is a problem for Leicester, as they haven’t scored in five matches and are letting in a lot of goals. United could’ve scored another, but Mkhitaryan skied a pull-back.
United are still in the hunt for the top four. They are in sixth, one point off Liverpool in fifth place and two points off Arsenal in fourth place. Meanwhile, Leicester are only one point above the relegation zone. They will try to avoid being the first reigning top-flight champions to be relegated since Manchester City in 1938.
