Cardiff City eased to a comfortable victory over Preston for their third home win in a row.
Preston nearly went ahead early, but Jordan Hugill was just inches away from forcing home and Aiden McGeady cross. But, in the 18th minute, Daniel Johnson fouled Junior Hoilett in the box and the ref gave a penalty. Peter Whittingham coolly scored the penalty for his 97th goal for the club.
In the 28th minute, a piece of magic doubled the lead for the Bluebirds. On his 23rd birthday. Kenneth Zohore got the ball on the halfway line, he went past three players, before dinking the ball over the keeper. Preston nearly got a goal back, but Allan McGregor saved from Ben Pearson. Just before half-time, Hoilett diverted a Sean Morrison header onto the bar.
Preston had a bit of pressure at the beginning of the second half. But, in the 63rd minute, Zohore nearly scored again. On the break, he forced a save from Chris Maxwell. Preston couldn’t break down a very solid Cardiff defence.
Cardiff are now 11 points above the relegation zone in 15th place. They have won three home games in a row for the first time in two and a half years. Next up, they are playing Norwich at home on Saturday, the 4 February. Hopefully they can carry on their winning form.
