Cardiff narrowly lost to high-flying Reading, but they gave a determined performance again.

Cardiff had more shots than Reading during the game. With about twenty minutes gone, Joe Ralls hit the post from 18 yards. There were hardly any clear chances for either team, they were mostly limited to long-range efforts.

In the 42nd minute, John Swift put Reading in front. He swept home from Garath McCleary’s back-heel. But, they only held on for four minutes, as Cardiff won a penalty in stoppage time. Sean Morrison was fouled by Liam Moore. Joe Ralls tucked away the penalty and it was level at half time.

In the second half, in the 60th minute, Reading went back in front. Yann scored direct from a free-kick after he was fouled by Sol Bamba. Cardiff nearly equalised again after going behind for the second time. Ali Al-Habsi tipped over Junior Hoilett’s free-kick and also clawed away Kermorgant’s sliced attempted clearance. Kadeem Harris also had an effort which went across the face of goal for the Bluebirds. But, Reading held on.

Reading dominated the possession, but City had nine more shots than them. Reading have reclaimed third place in the Championship with this win. Cardiff remain in 16th place, eight points above the relegation zone.

Next up for the Bluebirds are Preston at home on Tuesday, the 31st of January. Hopefully they can get back to winning ways and end this losing run.
