A first half Joe Ralls goal helped Cardiff to a victory over Aston Villa.
In the first half, Cardiff were much the better side and in the 16th minute, they scored. Joe Bennett crossed it in from a corner and Ralls volleyed it in although it was poor Villa defending. Cardiff could’ve gone further in front but, Kenneth Zohore missed two glorious chances. He hit a volley against the bar and then, when clean through on goal, took too long before having a shot blocked by Jordan Amavi. Villa were shocking in the first half, but came out stronger in the second half.
Villa made changes and they started to dominate. Brian Murphy had a very good game, making quite a few good saves. One of thos saves was from a Ross McCormack free-kick when he tipped it onto the bar. Gabby Agbonlahor gave Villa more pace in attack and he also had a shot saved by Murphy. Jack Grealish was claiming a lot of free-kicks through going down too easily and the referee was giving a lot of free-kicks for soft chances. Steve Bruce claimed that the Cardiff players were targeting Grealish
Cardiff are now 19th in the table, three points above the relegation zone. Aston Villa are 13th. Next up for the Bluebirds is a home game against Fulham on Sunday, the 8th of January in the FA Cup and hopefully they can get a win. Next up in the league is the Severnside derby against Bristol City and hopefully they can get another win.
