Henrick Mkhitaryan scored an outrageous goal as Man United eased to victory over Sunderland.
United dominated the whole game, but struggled to break down an improving Sunderland side. They finally scored in the 39th minute through Daley Blind. Zlatan Ibrahimovic set him up with his first assist for United, before Blind fired low into the bottom-right corner. It was his first goal of the season.
For most of the second half it was only a one goal lead. This was before Sunderland gave away possession in midfield, Paul Pogba ran clear and set up Ibrahimovic to double the lead in the 82nd minute. The extra flair came when Mkhitaryan came on after the break. Then, in the 86th minute, Ibrahimovic crossed in for Mkhitaryan who scored with a brilliant backheeled volley, although replays showed he was offside.
Although Sunderland had no threat all game, Fabio Borini did score a consolation with a wonderful strike. Sunderland are now two points away from safety. United had 63% possession and 25 shots on goal, which shows their dominance. United are still 3 points off 5th placed Tottenham, but there are real improvements.
Next up for United is a home game against Middlesbrough on the 31st of December. Hopefully they can carry on the winning streak.
