Cardiff held ten-man Brighton to a 0-0 draw in a dire encounter, as Brighton missed a chance to go top.

There were hardly any chances with neither team looking likely to claim victory. Aron Gunnarsson had an early shot saved for Cardiff, which was pretty much their only chance in the first half. Joe Bennett nearly gifted Brighton a goal, giving the ball away, but they failed to take the chance. That was all the action in the first half.

In the second half, Sol Bamba narrowly missed a header from a corner. Glenn Murray had a goal disallowed, for a foul by Shane Duffy who headed the ball to him. Brighton pressed for a winner in the second half, which would’ve seen them go above Newcastle at the top, as they’d lost to Nottingham Forest on Friday. They had Gaeten Bong sent off in added time.

The draw keeps Cardiff one point adrift of safety in 22nd place. This was not much between the two teams, even though they are at oposite sides of the table. Brighton extend their unbeaten run to 13 games, but may see this as a missed opportunity. They remain in second place.

Cardiff’s next game is away at Ipswich next Saturday and they will be hoping to win that match.
