Man United eased into the EFL Cup semi-finals with a comfortable 4-1 win over West Ham.
Jose Mourinho was not on the touch line because he was give a one-match touchline ban before the game. He stayed out of view during the game. They got off to the perfect start through Zlatan Ibrahimovic inside two minutes after a Henrick Mkhitaryan back-heel. In the 35th minute, former united youngster Ashley Fletcher equalised as he pounced on a David de Few fumble.
Just as they scored early in the first half, they scored early in the second half. Mkhitaryan’s cross was drilled past Adrian through Anthony Martial as he re-established United’s lead. Martial had a very good game and got his form from last season back. He also extended their lead in the 62nd minute when he stroked in Antonio Valencia’s low cross after some good play. Ibrahimovic then finished it off in stoppage time tapping it in from Ander Herrera’s cut back.
Mourinho was even happy enough to bring Bastian Schweinsteiger on for his first game since March, after he had said that he might not play again for United. Mourinho would’ve been very happy with the attacking performance, especially as Mkhitaryan made another very good impression.
Next up for United is a trip to Everton on Sunday the 4th of December. Their first leg of the semi-final against Hull City will be at home on the 10th of January.
